Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is an office-based procedure, that does not require anesthetic or sedation.  If the veins to be treated are not visible outwardly, an ultrasound is used to guide therapy. Several sessions may be required to eradicate all unsightly veins.

The Process

A proven procedure since the 1930s, varicose and spider veins can be treated by direct injection of a chemical solution, or sclerosing agent. This results in irritation of the vein wall, and closure of the vein. Over time, these veins shrink and gradually fade.

Although skin staining can occur following injections, this is typically temporary. The treated veins will fade over weeks to months, depending on initial size.  In general, veins that respond favourably to sclerotherapy do not recur.  In the future, however, other unsightly veins may appear.

We are rapidly expanding our affiliated clinics throughout the province of Ontario.
We are working to provide comprehensive vein care to all Ontarians.

Own Health virtual platform is supported by a network of physical sites, which provide geographically convenient locations when diagnostics, in-person wound care, and/or surgical interventions become necessary.
